How lucky are we? 1 week to go!

I just wanted to say how lucky I feel to be in this position.  A week before Kate's surgery date and I know almost exactly what to expect from forums, parents and specialist blogs, articles and other information and research online, thanks to Tim Berners-Lee.

I also have to thank my parents, a lot, for bringing me up and making me the way I am.  I feel I'm quite a rounded and stable individual, emotionally.  Coaching has also played a part in me being positive and optimistic and although I'm still, I think like my Mum, a bit of a worrier, I would say I'm coping well at the moment.

How lucky we are too, to have such a great family that we didn't really even have to ask for help.  It was just a given that my sister and parents would look after Nikki whilst we 'deal' with whatever next week has in store for us.  Hubby's parents are on standby too.  It is so good to know that she'll be well looked-after and I really won't worry about her and can concentrate on Kate.  In fact, I'm a bit put-out to be honest that she's probably going to have a whale of a time while we're out of the picture!!

Add-in the mum who noticed Kate's odd head-shape who put me in touch with a local lady who's son had operations for a different type of craniosynostosis. We met up last week and she answered lots of my questions about post-op recovery and appointments.  I got so see, not very well through his thick hair, her son's year-old scar too.  Oh, and last night our friend who used to work at Great Ormond Street, as a play specialist for those going for and recovering from surgery, talked to me more about what to expect in hospital and is going to help me talk and explain to Nikki about Kate's operation.

Thanks for our friends and family support, well-wishers and offers of help in abundance. I think nearly everything sorted that we can think of until nearer the time.  We are just on a relatively-easy countdown to Monday's CT Scan and assuming all's well, surgery on Weds, 10th April.

That does turn my stomach though!

NOTE - Surgery date has now changed - see next post!
